Chapter Six

My entrepreneurial
journey

I didn’t set out to build a billion-dollar company. I set out to stop drifting and to build something real with my life.

Why this chapter exists

A decade of wrong turns that only made sense later

What followed wasn’t a straight line. It was a decade of wrong turns, painful losses, near collapses, and decisions that only made sense years later. There were seasons where everything I touched stalled, and seasons where momentum arrived only after years of grinding in the dark.

Looking back, I can see that what held it together wasn’t luck, brilliance, or perfect timing. It was a framework, formed long before I could name it, that kept me moving with direction instead of drift.

I grew up in a small farming community where hard work wasn’t optional — it was the baseline. We hauled hay, fixed fences, irrigated fields, dug trenches. You didn’t complain; you showed up. From there it was a $300 truck named Rusty and more than a hundred lawns a week.

I lived it long before I could name it.

Read this one looking for yourself in it — the doubts, the detours, and the way God used all of it to build something bigger than I could see at the time. Your career won’t unfold in a straight line either. That’s not a warning. It’s permission.

No worksheet for this one

Chapter 6 is a story, not an assignment. Read it for the pattern rather than the plan — then go back to Chapter 5 and run the process on your own career.

This is the short version

The full chapter follows the whole arc — from lawns and Rusty through the failures nobody saw, to building software from the ground up with my brothers.
