Chapter Twelve

Living a meaningful life
—on purpose

You now have everything you need to build your playbook for a meaningful life. Not a perfect life. Not an easy life. A meaningful one.

The core idea

The framework stays the same.
The season changes.

This four-step process isn’t something you use once and outgrow. You don’t redefine who you are each time life changes, but you do revisit how you live out that identity in new seasons.

As you move into parenthood, career shifts, leadership roles, empty nesting, or retirement, you’ll face moments that require clarity and intentional decision-making again. In those moments, you return to the same process. You discover what matters most in this season, refine your direction, build a plan that fits your current reality, and strive with consistency.

And when your life aligns with your potential, something powerful happens. The chaos inside disappears. There will still be chaos around you, because life is messy. But it won’t live inside your soul.

That chaos you’ve felt since coming home was never a sign you were broken. It was a sign that you were misaligned.
One

These are the good old days

Your future eventually becomes your present, and the present is the only moment you ever get to enjoy. Don’t postpone your happiness for “one day.”

Two

Choosing a meaningful life

The world desperately needs men of character, faith, courage, discipline, humility, and action. That is who this book is for.

Three

Become the man you were meant to be

You weren’t sent to earth to drift. Begin today — not when life settles down, not when you feel more confident. Today.

Your life will not build itself. You must build it — intentionally, courageously, and on purpose. One day you’re going to look back on the life you built. Make sure it’s one you’re proud of.

The book’s final section

Start Now

You don’t need more time. You don’t need more information. You already have what you need. What happens next comes down to one decision: are you going to act, or are you going to drift?

The full Start Now experience, including all six areas and a reusable Four Steps decision worksheet, lives on the Start Now page.

01

Lock in your identity

Most people won’t act. They’ll close this book, feel motivated for a few days, and then slowly fall back into the same patterns — not because they don’t care, but because they never commit. Don’t let that be you.

If you haven’t written your Identity Standard, go back to Chapter 3 and build it. Don’t skip it. Without it you will drift back into reacting instead of leading. If you have written it, read it again and ask yourself one question.

Am I actually living this?

Haven’t written it yet? Open the Identity Standard Builder and do it before you go any further.

02

Choose ONE area

Not every area. One. Pick the area that would change the trajectory of your life the most. There’s no perfect place to start, but there is power in choosing one and committing to it.

03

Run it through the process

Go back to the chapter that covers it and run the Four Steps. You already know how this works. Now prove that you’ll use it.

04

Take the first step today

Not when life settles down. Not when you feel more confident. Not when the path feels easier. Today.

One step that aligns with your identity. One step that honors the man you’re becoming.

You’ve already proven you can live with discipline. You’ve already committed to something bigger than yourself. Now it’s time to lead your own life with that same intention.
